Scrapheap to Christmas gift
Date published: 09 December 2009

Parents Mandy Rowles, Steven Greenacre, Jo Phillips, Nikki Barker and Stacey Johnson show off their scrapheap challenge Christmas gifts.
Parents and carers at Sandbrook Sure Start Children’s Centre put their creative skills to the test in a scrap heap challenge earlier this week.
They were tasked with making wooden trains, boats and cars from raw materials and paint them.
The aim was to encourage parents to make something themselves to give to their children for Christmas and increase the involvement of dad’s in children’s centre activities and give parents opportunity to try out new skills.
Parent Nikki Barker said: “We had a fantastic morning and have made our children a unique toy for them to treasure."
Facilitator Jo Philips said: “I felt that a group of adults came to the session and reverted back to their own childhood as they lovingly made toys for their children."
