'Elf and Safety' Campaign
Passenger's may be surprised to see Santa's little helpers at bus stations this week but it is all in the name of ‘Elf and Safety.’
GMPTE and the Greater Manchester Bus Operators Association (GMBOA) have arranged for the 'elves', in full costume, to give passengers gifts of candy canes and leaflets reminding them to take extra care when using bus stations during the busy festive season.
The campaign started yesterday, (Monday 7 December) and will run until Friday.
Michael Renshaw, GMPTE's Interim Bus and Rail Director, said: "Accidents at bus stations are rare but, at this time of year, we like to remind customers to take particular care.
"After a long day of Christmas shopping and amid the many distractions of the season, customers aren't always quite so aware of their surroundings as they would usually be and, of course, winter also means shorter daylight hours and sometimes, wetter weather.
"Our Elf and Safety campaign is a fun, friendly, eye-catching way to get the message across to travellers of all ages, and we hope the elves will raise a few smiles and brighten people's journeys as well."
Mark Threapleton, Chairman of GMBOA, said: "With even more people than usual travelling by bus in the run up to Christmas, this campaign is a great way of reminding everyone to stay safe."
