Nine Year 10 pupils were fortunate to go on a trip to the Nursing & Midwifery Department at Salford University.

The theme of the visit was Coronary Heart Disease, and part of the day included spending time in the Simulator department nursing a 'patient' who had had a heart attack. The 'simulators' look and act like real human beings, and cost £32,000 per patient.

On Wednesday (9 December) we will be holding a Literacy Afternoon from 2pm to 3.30pm for parents/carers of students working on the Literacy Programme. Invitations have been sent out this week. We look forward to meeting you and free refreshments will be served.

Cartwheel Arts have organised a Talent Show for the Newbold area. The show will be held in February 2010 and is open to anyone between the ages of 12 and 19 living in the Newbold area. The company would like pupils who sing, rap, play in a band or dance to enter. A second taster session will be held here at Springhill in the main hall for those who want to try out their talent. There will be coaching sessions in singing, mc-ing, street dance, hip hop and a vocal coach. The date is still to be confirmed but it will be before Christmas - watch this space.

On 25 November all year 9 pupils at Springhill High took part in an exciting crime and safety awareness day. It was a multiagency event involving the Police, Fire service, Magistrates and the Prison service. Together they left a memorable impression upon the pupils. The attention and questioning by the pupils was outstanding.

Our Year 7 students were invited to Balderstone School on Tuesday to enjoy a performance of East Meets West a production of Eastern and Western Culture.

Also on Wednesday some of our Year 9 students took part in a joint Science project 'The Rude Science of the Human Body'.

A film company spent all of last Wednesday filming at Springhill High School. They were making a series of films for the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (BECTA) about the use of Learning Platforms in schools.

Staff and students were interviewed and filmed in lessons as well as using the Learning Platform to continue their work from home.

The footage shot at Springhill will contribute to two films on 'Personalisation' and 'Transforming Teaching and Learning'.
