Date published: 02 December 2009

Homes on Shakespeare Close in Littleborough were evacuated yesterday morning (Tuesday 1 December) after workmen found a grenade in the attic of one of the houses.

Workmen have been re-roofing homes in the area and found the explosive device while they were carrying out this work. They contacted the police after finding the grenade at around 10am and the area was cordoned off and nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.

The bomb disposal squad were called in to remove the grenade, which was not live.
