Helping to make homes safer

Date published: 01 December 2009

Members of Middleton Neighbourhood Policing Team have been carrying out crime prevention surveys in a bid to reduce burglaries in the homes of vulnerable people.

The team identified areas that may be targeted by burglars and officers visited the residents of these locations to determine the necessary security measures.

They were accompanied by a locksmith from Timpsons who is able to fit crime prevention equipment on completion of the survey free of charge.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team is now in the process of completing the surveys across the Middleton area.

Greater Manchester High Sheriff’s Police Trust provided funding for the equipment.

Inspector Gary Hall for Middleton Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “All homes can benefit from additional security measures to make it more difficult for opportunists to break in.

“Funding is always an issue especially for the older and vulnerable members of our town which is why I am grateful to Greater Manchester High Sheriff’s Police Trust for providing us with the funding that has benefited so many.”
