Date published: 29 November 2009
STORM has hit out at what they say is a continuing attack on the rail commuting fraternity in the Rochdale area. They have published a list of recent changes they say has been detrimental to local rail users.
STORM spokesman Frank Salt says: "We do appear to have one local councillor who has an interest but overall there appears to be little political will to obtain radical improvements."
A summary of the recent changes:
- Littleborough and Smithy Bridge service change resulting in uneven service frequency coupled with slower journey times and poorer quality rolling stock.
- Milnrow and New Hey - total loss of service for 2.5 years.
- Rochdale - loss of significant car parking with no respite in sight.
- Mills Hill - lack of capacity to join trains on a regular basis.
- Loss of later return train from Manchester.
- Capacity issues when seeking to return from Manchester
