Policeman given life for murdering fiancee
Date published: 23 November 2009
A former police officer has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his fiancee, a fellow pc who worked in Rochdale for Greater Manchester Police.
Martin Forshaw, 27, of Tottington, Bury will serve a minimum term of 18 years after he admitted to bludgeoning Claire Howarth, 31, to death with a hammer. He staged a car crash to cover up the murder just a couple of days before they were set to be married in May this year.
Forshaw hit Miss Howarth at least five times with the hammer before putting her body in the driver's seat of her BMW and causing it to crash.
