Sponsor a window for Norden Old Library

The Norden Old Library project is approaching another exciting milestone for the redevelopment of the building and Norden Community Trust is launching a major fundraising appeal to help with the costs.

In July the Norden Clock was completely refurbished by specialist firm Smiths of Derby after grant money had been allocated by all three Norden councillors.

Now the Norden Community Trust would like to arrange for the removal of the unsightly shutters, but first the broken window frames and glass need to be replaced with new double glazed windows.

Trustee Nigel Morrell says: “This would be the first essential step to allow the ground floor to be opened again to the public for community use. The work is essential to maintain the fabric of the building as well s making long term savings on our energy bill. The new windows will feature Pilkington ‘K’ safety glass for energy conservation and user safety. The total cost for all ground floor windows including protective iron grills would amount to £8000.”

Councillor Wera Hobhouse, who is also a trustee, says: “We are now appealing to the generosity of Norden residents. The trust only has limited funds and installing new windows seems a good opportunity to ask for help. Removing the ugly shutters and installing new windows is so visible and everybody could immediately see the big difference a donation to the project makes.”

Any sum would help but as an extra incentive the Trust has devised a small scheme:

• Bronze sponsor by donating £20 
• Silver sponsor by donating £100 
• Gold sponsor by donating £400 (which would pay for a full sash)

Kathryn Bentley who is the Trusts treasurer adds: “All donors would be mentioned on a future plague which will be installed inside the building as well as being named on Norden Old Library website.”
