MP Phil Woolas signs up for his identity card
MP for Milnrow and Newhey, Phil Woolas has become one of the first people in Greater Manchester to sign up for a Government identity card.
The Home Office Minister visited the Identity and Passport Service office in central Manchester.
The cards, which cost £30, can be applied for from 30 November and can be used in place of a passport for European travel.
Identity minister Meg Hillier said: “Identity cards will prove themselves extremely useful in daily life, from opening a bank account to entering a nightclub, and for travel to Europe.”
Mr Woolas added: “Today marks a major milestone for the launch of identity cards.
“Having been through the enrolment process, I can vouch for the fact it is simple, secure and only takes around 15 minutes.”
