As an incentive for parents of reception children, to encourage them have school dinners instead of packed lunches or home dinners, the meals are being provided free of charge for 4 weeks. School meals are very nutritious, healthy and are cooked on site. The uptake has been very good so far.

Reception children had a lovely day out when they visited Tropical World near Leeds. They had a great time.

School Council met again on Wednesday and decided which fund raising activities school would be involved in for Children In Need. Also the Council chose which members of staff they would like to interview as part of our Investors In Pupils project. Staff watch out – they have some interesting questions to ask you!

Year 1 children braved the bad weather this week when they visited the Wheatsheaf Library and had very useful, informative sessions. Children had a story read to them and learned how to join the library.

Twelve children from Years 5 and 6 started their 4 week cycling proficiency course this week. The children spent about an hour with their instructors learning about road safety and next week will be going out on their bikes on roads around the school. Their bikes on the whole were in excellent condition and each child brought a safety helmet. Thank you parents for providing the equipment your children needed.

What a fantastic sight greeted children on Friday when they came in to the hall for morning assembly. Two long tables were groaning under the weight of food very kindly donated by parents and staff. Even more donations came in during harvest assembly when each class brought forward a decorated box full of tins and fresh produce. Each year group sang their favourite harvest song.

Reception children came in to assembly for the first time and sang a song about vegetables which ended up leaving us in no doubt that vegetables made them big and strong!

The food was then taken by car to the very grateful Petrus Community. Thank you to everyone who donated food for this worthwhile cause.

Children had a dash of red on their green school jumpers this week when they wore the poppies that have been on sale in the office and in the classrooms. The school council have been helping by taking the poppies around to each class and we have sold them all, the collecting tin is very heavy. Children learned this week about the poppies and why they were being sold, during assemblies.

Attendance awards this week went to Mrs Akhtar’s and Mrs Clayton/Mr Dysch’s classes. Early Bird Awards went to Mrs Akhtar’s and Mrs Vickers’ classes.
