Springhill Hospice Rochdale Calendar competition
Date published: 23 February 2007
Local amateur photographers are being asked to help make the Springhill Hospice ‘Rochdale Calendar’ for next year a colourful buy. Several thousand copies of the 2007 calendar were sold last year and many were sent around the country and the rest of the world – one lady sold several copies from her holiday home in Crete!
The 2008 Calendar will include thirteen colour photographs of local scenes – the front cover and one for each month. Last year, over 250 photographs were submitted as potential illustrations for the 2007 calendar.
Ian Jenkins, Fundraising Manager for Springhill Hospice, says: “When the judges look at choosing the photos for inside the calendar, they are particularly looking for pictures that show the changing of the seasons, or those that capture some sort of activity and, of course, scenes that represent the whole borough – Middleton to Littleborough, Heywood to Whitworth, so I would strongly suggest that entrants bear these points in mind when they are choosing their subject matter.”
The entry fee remains at just £2 for up to four prints with an extra 50p for each additional print submitted. Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to ‘Springhill Hospice’ and sent to the address below to arrive before the closing date, Friday 13 April 2007.
Photographic entries must measure 150mm wide x 105mm deep (landscape, postcard size), in order to fit in with the calendar’s format. A completed entry form should be attached and the scene, its location, the name and address of the entrant identified on the reverse of each print.
All entries will be displayed on the Gallery Level of The Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre, Rochdale, in mid-May to give shoppers the chance to vote for their favourite photograph. The one with the most votes will then be used as the front cover picture of the calendar.
Springhill Hospice is again much indebted to The Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre who are once again the main sponsors of 2008 Springhill Hospice Rochdale Calendar. Mr Jenkins added: “I must thank the management of the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre, and all our monthly sponsors, for the support they give to the calendar year on year. Without their support we would not be able to benefit as much as we do from the sales of the calendar.”
