Life's a bench in Balderstone

Date published: 27 October 2009

Residents in Balderstone now have the chance to stop, rest and enjoy the view after a new bench was put in place.

The new bench was installed on Broad Lane after local residents contacted Balderstone Councillor Pat Colclough to vent their frustrations after a previous bench had been removed years ago due to it being left in a state of disrepair.

Councillor Pat Colclough paid for the bench from ward funds at a cost of £500.

Councillor Colclough said: “After years of trying by local residents to get the bench refurbished I am delighted the work has now been carried out. The new bench will provide many local residents much pleasure by enjoying the picturesque view.”

Local resident Rod Adams, who initially contacted Councillor Colclough regarding the bench, said: “It’s great to see our local councillors listen to local residents needs and this is a great example of that. I had tried to get the bench replaced for many years but to no avail. However, after emailing Councillor Colclough directly she sprung into action and within a short period of time the new bench was put in place. It’s great to see the Council acting upon the concerns of local residents to help deliver facilities much needed by residents.”
