Date published: 25 October 2009

The Mayor of Rochdale officially opened the newly refurbished La Min-Haz restaurant.

The restaurant on Market Place, Middleton has been closed for eight weeks for a revamp which has given it a very modern feel and an extended seating area for diners.

The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Keith Swift, accompanied by the Mayoress Sue Etchells, along with MP for Middelton Jim Dobbin and his wife Pat, cut the ribbon to mark the re-opening.

Mayor Swift said: “It is pleasing to see another substantial investment in Middleton town centre; it can only bode well for the future.

“Mr Hussain has a well established business in Middleton. I’m sure the expansion and refurbishment of the restaurant will be welcomed by his many regular customers who have enjoyed top class Asian Cuisine at La Min-Haz over the last 16 years.”

MP for Heywood and Middleton, Jim Dobbin, said: “It looks fantastic in here and it adds something to the town centre in line with all the other new developments.”

The owner of the restaurant, Mr Moshahid Hussain, said: “I decided I wanted to bring the restaurant more up market and bring in a new concept of Asian cooking.

“There is a completely new section in the menu wish includes fish dishes as we wanted to introduce something new and give the people of Middleton something different.

Minaz Hussain, 17, has worked at the restaurant for a few years, he said: “I think the refurbishment has made a really good change, we wanted to reach to a wider audience but also provide a modern building to keep with the time.”

Asraful Islam Khan, from Nahi Builders Service who carried out the renovation, said: “This is the biggest project I have done and I really enjoyed doing something modern.

“I like the end result and if the owners are happy so are we.”

Regulars at the restaurant, Sybil and Norman Cooper attended the re-opening, Mrs Cooper said: “We live just around the corner and we try to come every couple of weeks on a Sunday.

“The place was nice before, but nothing in comparison to this, they have made a tremendous difference.”
