Healey homes hit by power cut
Date published: 19 October 2009
A double power cut in Healey has left 35 homes without electricity since around 9pm last night (Sunday 18 October).
United Utilities say that a temporary fault at 8.45 last night left the homes without power. After fixing this problem at the substation, power returned to these houses at 9.30pm.
However, the temporary problem developed into a seperate, more major fault at around 11pm. Power went out at an additional 78 homes, as well as the original 35.
United Utilities engineers worked through the night and restored power to the 78 homes at 6am this morning, but the original 35 homes have been without power all day. Engineers have continued to investigate the problem and were optimistic that power would be restored by 5pm.
A spokesperson for United Utilities said: "We are sorry to the people affected by these power cuts. It was an unfortunate situation with two different faults in the same area and this made it difficult. But we have not ignored the problem and we had people working all the way through the night to try and fix it."
