Deeplish Primary School

Deeplish Primary School.
How very proud and important our new school council looked when they received their badges and folders during Monday morning’s whole school assembly. Each of them gave the speeches they had given to their peers to persuade them that they were the people to vote for. What powerful speeches they were, especially from Yasir!
Mr Dysch talked about the important jobs and events the school council had undertaken last year and Mrs Davis showed and reminded everyone about the school council ideas boxes that are in every classroom. At Deeplish School our children’s voices and ideas are listened to and taken notice of. Come on everyone; let’s make this the best year ever for good ideas to make the school an even happier place to be.
On Tuesday morning our office staff, Mrs Ballantyne, Mrs Drake and Mrs Kane hosted a coffee morning in the staff room for Macmillan Cancer Support. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, tea and home made cakes and scones was just too much for everyone and a fantastic £130 was raised for this excellent service. Thank you to all who attended and especially to our wonderful hosts.
During this event we were introduced to our new French Assistant Claire Schepers who will be helping our children, and staff, to learn French. Welcome Claire, we are looking forward to working with you.
Deeplish School was taken back to Victorian times during Thursday afternoon’s assembly. Miss Regan’s class showed us what it was like to be in a Victorian classroom with a very scary teacher, Mr Grimm, played by Gulshan. Ms Burrow congratulated her and the class on an excellent performance.
During this assembly our JAMS – Just Ask Me (Red Hats) - and our HALS – Helpers at Lunch (Green Hats) - were introduced to the school. These children, with the support of our lunchtime supervisors, make a brilliant lunchtime team. The whole team met this week with Ms Burrow and Mrs Davis and are already working very well together. Thank you all of you.
A “Late Stop” was organised on two mornings this week to try to minimise the numbers of children arriving at school after the bell has gone. Mrs Davis and our Education Welfare Officer stood outside talking to parents of children who arrived late for school. Let’s hope even more children arrive on time this year.
The awards for the classes with the least number of children arriving late this week went to Mrs Akhtar’s and Mrs Clayton/Mr Dysch’s classes. Let’s see if we can have everyone arriving on time. Attendance Awards went to Miss Butterworth’s and Mrs Isherwood’s classes with 99.6% and 99.3% respectively.
