Text poll for 'dangerous' lane plans
Date published: 05 October 2009

Resident Gill Holt texts her vote on the proposals for Half Acre Lane to Councillor William Hobhouse.
Residents in Links View, Half Acre Road, Battersby Street and surrounding roads are being asked to express their views by text on Council proposals to re-design Half Acre Lane to stop or discourage drivers the wrong way up the one way lane.
Home owners in the area are being asked to vote yes or no on the council plans for the road, which is sometimes used by drivers 'illegally and dangerously' to avoid the traffic lights at the Roch Valley Way junction with Bury Road.
In March this year the problem was discussed at the Bamford Area Forum and in June funding proposals were presented to Rochdale Township. The Township gave the go-ahead for something to be done to prevent the problem.
The Council has drawn up a possible proposal and this is now being distributed to residents. Councillor William Hobhouse is inviting them to text him with a yes or a no to the plans.
Resident Gill Holt said: "My husband and I will be texting our response back. We appreciate to be asked, because it is important that the re-design achieves what we want it to achieve."
Councillor Hobhouse said: "With the re-design of Half Acre Lane, the residents know best what should or shouldn’t work. I am looking forward to going through the replies and picking up on the wealth of local knowledge that the residents have."
