Pupils from Greenbank County Primary School stretched their legs to raise more than £500 for children’s charity, MedEquip4Kids.

The school, in Greenbank Road, was the first school in Rochdale to take part in the charity’s new fundraising event, Walk4Kids.

MedEquip4Kids is a North West charity raising money to provide medical equipment for children’s wards and neo-natal units at hospitals across the region ensuring children and babies receive the best possible care when sick or injured.

As part of the charity’s schools programme, Get Active with Pip, MedEquip4Kids has launched Walk4Kids encouraging primary schools to organise a sponsored walk of their choice around school grounds.

MedEquip4Kids’ schools presenter, Debbie Barker, visited Greenbank County Primary School to speak to the children during assembly about the work of the charity and the reasons why it was important to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.

Mrs Barker than returned to the school two weeks later for the sponsored walk, where pupils were split into age groups to walk up to six laps around the school grounds.

The youngsters raised £552 for MedEquip4Kids in sponsorship. Mrs Barker said: “The pupils at Greenbank County Primary School were fantastic and the amount of money they raised will allow us to continue our vital work providing essential medical equipment to treat poorly children so we thank them for their support.”
