Good Neighbour Awards

Date published: 29 March 2007

Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, who manage the borough’s council homes, are launching their first Good Neighbour Award as part of the Communities First initiative. These awards will be made every two months and there will be awards in each township area. The first awards will be presented at the end of April.

Sue Kershaw, Communities First Co-ordinator explains: “These awards are the public’s chance to pay tribute to someone special, either an adult or young person, whose kindness has made a real difference to their life or that of another neighbour – everyone who is nominated will receive a certificate and the winners from each area will win their choice of award – either flowers, chocolates, wine or a shopping voucher.

“Everyone knows that being a good neighbour can make all the difference. Perhaps people have helped you at a time of crisis, or carry out regular jobs or shopping trips for you? Maybe, they’ve looked after your children, so you can take a break or return to work or maybe they’re just that listening ear over a cup of tea.?”

“We want to hear about these people and our only requirement is that either the neighbour in question or the person nominating them is a Rochdale Council tenant.”

Communities First, as a whole, aims to recognise and reward those who respect their local communities and hopes to promote positive behaviour on estates through awards like this.

Good Neighbour awards are supported by Gordon Rigg Garden Centre (Rochdale) and A Little Different Chocolatiere in Littleborough. If you have someone in mind, who is more than just the person next door, fill in a simple nomination form at:
