Four arrests after motorists attacked
Date published: 25 September 2009
Four men have been arrested after three motorists were attacked within the space of one hour in Castleton.
The three offences took place on Monday 14 September.
The first offence, at about 10.10pm, took place on St Martin's Crescent, where a 71-year-old woman was getting into her Suzuki car.
A man grabbed the woman by the arm and demanded the keys to the car. He took them and left. The victim was left with bruising on the arm.
Moments later, a man was driving his car along Albion Street when an offender brandishing a glass bottle tried to open his car door as he drove past.
Shortly after 11pm, a 25-year-old man was driving his car along Manchester Road. A man was standing in the road and refused to get out of the way.
As the victim got out of the car and tried to confront the offender, two more men emerged and the victim was punched, kicked and robbed of his mobile phone.
The victim managed to get back into his car and drive off.
Four men, aged between 16 and 18, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and have been bailed until 6 November pending further police inquiries.
Police are still appealing for information around these attacks, and are keen to speak to two women who were standing in the street outside the New Inn on Manchester Road.
Anyone with any information should call 0161 856 8632 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
