Sacred Heart Church

“May you live to comb grey hair” - this is a lovely way of wishing people a long life. This is how Father O’ Kane greeted over a hundred guests at our Senior Citizens Indian Summer Afternoon Tea last Sunday. With good food and home made entertainment it was a most enjoyable afternoon.

Father O’ Kane also thanked them for all they had done and are still doing in the life of the parish. He thanked all who did the ‘spade work’ for such a fine party – all the helpers very young and older who did so much before, during and after the event leaving the Parish Centre ready for Monday evening’s Line Dancing. Bernard McDevitt, who combed much grey hair some years ago, stole the show with his rendering of two Donegal ballads.

We have a wonderful group of Altar Servers, girls and boys who serve Mass and other devotions throughout the Liturgical Year. Presently we have 27, among them are Niamh Simpson, Orlaith Harrison Maskew, Denver Bouic, Dylan Forbes and Isaac Whitesman who will be enrolled as new altar servers and receive their red cassocks and white cottas this weekend. Thanks to their parents who are so supportive of their children.

Sacramental Programme. Catechists: Mon 28 Sept at 7pm. Parents: Thurs 1 Oct 7.30 - 8.30pm. Children: Sat 3 Oct 10.00 - 11.50 am.

Deborah Wild’s Funeral at the Crematorium last Monday was huge. There were more mourners outside than inside. She was well known, working in Village Green Hairdressers in Milnrow, as a rounders player and she worked at Morrisons - a beautiful, happy person wherever she went. God rest her. Deepest sympathy to her family.

Deepest sympathy also to the Wynn family of Newhey on the death of Mary Wynn whose funeral takes place at Rochdale Crematorium on Monday 28 September at 11.50am.

The Sacred Heart Young Singers met for the second time in their new season of Music and Drama, 34 young people aged from 4 to 17. Jeanette Shine and Barbra Sweeney put them through their paces. The confidence that the youngest are showing is quite remarkable.
