Deeplish Primary School

Deeplish Primary School.
It was a busy week at school, especially for children in Key Stage 2. As part of LEAF – Local Environment Action Fortnight – our years 5 and 6 visited various locations near Rochdale town centre during the week. Children made bird feeders, planned and made a model of a playground and talked about “Lethal Litter!”
We have now started the exciting process of electing our new school council. Ms Burrow praised last year’s council for all their hard work. Amen and Anees, from last year’s council, talked in assembly about what they enjoyed about being a council member and Mrs Davis then explained the election process for this year.
Ms Burrow thanked everyone for their caring thoughts and generosity which have allowed school to adopt a dolphin called Stardance and a chimpanzee called Tess.
Our year 3 and 4 children had a fantastic morning on Tuesday when they went to Strike 10 Bowling at Sandbrook Park. The trip was designed to help them with their literacy and was evidenced in the pupils’ descriptions of story settings.
Mrs Campbell-Starling’s class went back in time on Friday when they visited Touchstones Museum and experienced what life was like in a Victorian schoolroom. All the children in Upper Years enjoyed looking through the box of artefacts from Victorian times and comparing them with what we use now.
Our year 4 children started their year of swimming when they went to Castleton Baths on Friday afternoon. They will be going once a week for the rest of this school year.
Reception children are now in school full time and are enjoying having their dinner at school. They have settled in very well.
Attendance again was very good with the awards this week going to Mrs Afzal’s and Mrs Campbell-Starling’s classes. Our Early Birds were Mrs Taylor’s and Miss Regan’s classes.
Eid songs were sung throughout school and we hope families enjoyed a lovely Eid weekend.
