Instead of aerobics and their weekly Keep Fit sessions, the British Muslim Women’s Health & Fitness Club, based at Deeplish Community Centre in Rochdale, has spent Ramadhan on a Home and Social Care agenda, finishing with Sunday flower arranging sessions.
With Eid imminent, the women joined in making table arrangements under the guidance of Joan Fletcher, an experienced Workers Education Association (WEA) craft tutor.
Joan said: “They are a caring, patient and very determined group, an absolute pleasure to work alongside, who have skilfully produced both real and artificial arrangements that would attractively decorate any home or celebration table.”
Sports For All, a local voluntary organisation, is expected to start it’s own mentoring phase for the club after Eid, and the group’s present helpers commented: “The club has been running at maximum capacity and SFA will undoubtedly enjoy the situation of activity planning with its members and committee - especially as the second half of their project involves a wider range of sports events and opportunities.”
