Local staff set to back post strike
Date published: 18 September 2009
Rochdale could be facing a winter of discontent as postal staff gear up for a potential national strike.
Ballot papers on strike action were sent out to staff across the country yesterday (Thursday 17 September), including all of Rochdale's postal workers.
A long-running row over pay, jobs and services has already sparked a series of walkouts across the country over the last few months.
The ballot closes on 8 October and strikes could begin by October 15, even stretching into November and the pre-Christmas build up.
Postal workers in Rochdale balloted members in June and have already held four days of action.
Royal Mail slammed the CWU’s decision to hold a national strike ballot while talks between senior management and the union leadership were taking place, describing the action as “wholly irresponsible”.
