Muslims prepare for Eid-ul-Fitr
Date published: 17 September 2009
Rochdale's Muslim community will be celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on either 20 or 21 September, depending upon the sighting of the new moon.
Rochdale's Ruet-e-Hilal (Sighting of the new moon) Committee, consisting of local mosques, will decide, in the light of the information provided to them, whether the new moon has been sighted or not.
On the 29th day of Ramadhan, the Muslim community gathers in mosques for Traveeh prayers and waits eagerly for the announcement of the sighting of the new moon.
As soon as Eid ul Fitr is announced they thank Allah for providing them with the opportunity to complete the month of fasting and start greeting each other and start preparation for the Eid-ul-Fitr the next day.
Mr. Muhammad Umar, Chairman of the Rochdale-based Ramadhan Foundation, said: “I am pleased to offer my Eid greetings on the imminent arrival of Eid ul Fitr which celebrates the end of the holy month of Ramadhan. This year once again we have seen in visible ways Muslims demonstrating their commitment to community and watching this has truly inspired many around the world.
"Eid is a time to celebrate with family, friends and a time to reflect on the great blessings of this holy day and those unable to enjoy this day due to poverty, war, famine and discourse – they should be in our thoughts.
"On behalf of the Ramadhan Foundation I offer my warmest Eid greetings to you and your families and I hope you have a great day.”
