Hundreds up for grabs in grants give-away
Date published: 16 April 2007
Hundreds of pounds in grants are available in YOUR area to help groups benefit their local communities. Grants are also available to help start new community groups.
The money comes from Rochdale Council's Township Committees, each of which has different amounts available for grants.
Examples of things for which grants have been given include:
- Equipment such as computers, photocopiers and water boilers for making hot drinks.
- Events or sporting activities.
Publicity material such as leaflets and posters.
Groups that benefit more than one township can get grants from more than one committee - so if your group is based in Middleton you could still get a share of the Rochdale, Heywood and Pennines township funds if you provide benefits in those areas.
An example of that is a group that provides bereavement support to people throughout the borough.
The Township Committees have different ways of sharing out the money they have available so the best way to find out if YOUR idea could get grant support is to talk to one of the township staff.
They will help you provide the information councillors will need to decide whether to give a grant to turn your idea into action.
ANY idea that benefits the community rather than an individual can be considered - and it costs nothing to ask.
Special consideration will be given to groups without their own funds, those wishing to help people with limited alternative means and in areas not benefiting from other funding opportunities.
The next meetings of the Funding Sub-Committees are in June and the closing date for applications is 11 May.
If you don't get your application in by the deadline you could still get a grant but would have to wait until the next meeting. Talk to your local Township Office staff for advice.
For further information or to request an application form please contact your local Township Office:
- Heywood 01706 627238
- Middleton 0845 602 4993
- Pennines 01706 757600
- Rochdale 01706 924857
If you are unsure which Township you should apply to, or if your group covers the whole Borough, staff at ANY township office will be able to help you.
