A Mixed Dinner with the Bradshaws

Date published: 12 September 2009

The Bradshaw’s invaded Milnrow tonight (Saturday 12 September); Buzz Hawkins brought his famous ‘cast’ of characters to Milnrow Cricket Club for a ‘A Mixed Dinner with the Bradshaws’, an evening of food, drink and superb entertainment, in aid of Springhill Hospice.

Buzz Hawkins is the man behind The Bradshaws, he writes, produces and performs the radio and television stories that are listened to worldwide (yes, he really does do all the voices!).

The Bradshaws soapettes originated on radio and have captivated millions of listeners in the UK for many years. Beginning on Piccadilly Radio, and Radio Manchester, the stories were twice nominated for the prestigious Sony Award for 'The Best Use Of Comedy On Radio'.

Talking exclusively to Rochdale Online, Buzz Hawkins said he was delighted to be at the cricket club to help raise money for the hospice. Asked what else he is working on he said: “I have been writing a new series for TV, an animation, like Wallace and Gromit only with models rather than plasticine – I do all three characters. I’ve also been recording the voice-overs of four characters for ‘Mother Earth’.

Chris Storey, Milnrow Cricket Club Groundsman and organiser of the event said: “It is a really good turn out – the room was packed – and that is very pleasing. The club committee decided it was appropriate to support the Hospice because our chairman of two years ago was in the hospice when he sadly passed away. There are few people whose lives, though friends and relatives, have not been touched at some time by the Hospice.”

Billy Bradshaw has made lots of television appearances and his Stranger Danger video, sponsored by Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Council and Manchester Airport, reached thousands of kids in North-West schools. Billy's new road safety "Easy Peasy Song" cartoon is out now.
