Seeking the history behind early 20th century postcards
Date published: 11 September 2009
A Milnrow man is hoping to discover the story behind two postcards of Milnrow that he found recently on eBay.
Ken Hall collects historical items from Rochdale and the surrounding area and came across the two cards on the popular auction site.
"I've always had a passion for collecting memorabilia from Rochdale, Oldham and Manchester and I thought these two cards were particularly interesting because they were sent from Milnrow to Massachusetts in America," said Mr Hall.
"They were made before World War One and I got into quite a bidding war for them on eBay. It's quite rare for items like that to turn up almost 100 years after they were sent.
"I'd be interested to know what the story is behind them because I always look into the stories with all the pieces that I collect."
The first card shows nine views of sites in Milnrow and is addressed to a Mrs J Warburton, thanking her for a 'pretty handkerchief and card' that she gave to the sender for her birthday. The second shows the Milnrow Co-operative Society shop after it was rebuilt and is addressed to a Mrs Whitehead.
