Take on the Great Wall for Hospice
Date published: 10 September 2009

Walkers will trek along the Great Wall of China in aid of Springhill Hospice.
Springhill Hospice is looking for a select group of supporters to embark on the Hospice’s biggest challenge yet – a fundraising trek of the Great Wall of China.
In conjunction with Classic Tours, one of the first UK company’s to organise charity events overseas, the Hospice will be taking up to 25 willing trekkers on the five day trek in October next year.
Each participant will raise a minimum of £2,900, more than half of which will go towards supporting the specialist services of the hospice.
The trek will include challenging climbs through picturesque scenery, taking in several of the Great Wall’s impressive Watchtowers.
After five days of demanding trekking, the group will be allowed to rest briefly in Beijing before returning home.
Each participant will be putting themselves through all of this to raise much needed money for their local hospice.
Springhill Hospice requires £6,500 per day in order to continue providing specialist care and support to patients and their families from all over the borough of Rochdale.
Springhill Hospice’s Community Fundraiser, Dean Connaughton, said: “We are extremely impressed with the interest in taking on this challenge. The trek will be hard work, but also incredibly rewarding, both in terms of the experience and in how valuable the money raised will be. We are all very excited to get started.”
If you think you are up to the challenge and would like to take part in the Great Wall of China trek for Springhill Hospice, or to sponsor the participants, contact Dean on 01706 649920 or email dean.connaughton@springhillhospice.nhs.uk
