Lights, camera, action in Darnhill

Date published: 04 September 2009

A film crew pitched up at Darnhill Community Centre earlier today to film staff, local children and families.

The film crew will interview people who use the centre, play areas and football pitches to see how they enjoy the brand new facilities and what a difference it has made to the Darnhill area.

The final film will be shown nationally to all 11,000 plus staff at Mouchel to highlight the benefits of the project.

Mouchel’s joint venture company, the Impact Partnership, was originally asked by SureStart to complete a £450k scheme to create a new adventure playground and building to improve young people’s facilities in Darnhill.

Through working with other partners who have a part to play in Darnhill, a relatively small project has been turned into a £1.3m scheme that has transformed the area.

The further £880k of funding has been secured from the Council’s Asset Management funding, libraries funding and private funding from the Guinness Trust, the Landlord of the housing estate. Encouraged by the investment in the area and its consequent transformation, the library service contributed further money to remodel and extend the library.

‘The Yard’ and play areas were completed last summer and the newly refurbished football changing facilities and re-modelled library are soon to be completed.

A spokesperson for the Community Centre said: "The new centre is more attractive, more accessible and the immediate area is safer for the community to use at any time of the day or night. Its success can be demonstrated by the increased footfall to the facilities, and to the area, helping to increase trade in the local shops and making the whole area more sustainable. This project should act as a catalyst to encourage further investment to the area and the surroundings."

The centre is based off Argyle Street, behind Argyle parade shops.
