Counterfeit trader fined almost £3000
Date published: 28 August 2009
A Rochdale-based father-of-two has admitted selling fake designer clothing and footwear on Bradford Market – claiming he needed to do it to make ends meet.
Market trader Tahir Iqbal, 38, of Green Royd Road, was fined £2,983 and ordered to carry out 200 hours’ unpaid work in the community in the next 12 months when he appeared before Bradford Magistrates.
He pleaded guilty to 19 charges of selling 452 items of counterfeit goods – some claiming to be Nike and G Star products – contrary to the Market Act on July 27 this year.
He was also ordered to pay £550 towards court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Magistrates heard it was his fourth similar offence and he had recently completed 120 hours’ community service in relation to similar matters.
They ordered him to pay the fines and costs over 12 months.
