Staff, students and their families celebrated another record breaking year for the school in the annual GCSE results day. The school was one of two in the Local Authority nominated as one of the most improved in the country last year.
A delighted Mr Robin Lonsdale was amongst the student hubbub which is unsurprising as the schools overall results having seen a significant improvement. The overall results have risen from 51% to 60% for 5+ GCSEs in the A*-C category. The percentage for grades A*-C including Maths and English has increased from 41% to 46%.
Several students received exceptionally impressive results with three students achieving 16 GCSEs, six students gaining 15 GCSEs and four students with 14 GCSEs.
Star pupils include Fokrul Chaudhury, Rabbie Faruque, Anna Zuranska and Agnieszka Posiednik. Fokrul Chaudhury achieved 16 A*-C, including a diploma in Dance. Mr Chaudhury said: “I was so shocked because I only expected to get 10 GCSEs and I got 16. I’m so happy.” Fokrul Chaudhury has aspirations for studying Biomedical Engineering at university, but before he can go on to university he hopes to complete a BTEC in Engineering.
Anna Zuranska came to Britain in Year nine with no English from her native Poland. She was determined to finish her education at the school despite her family returning home. She gained an impressive 10 GCSEs of which seven subjects were in the all important C category, and a distinction for her Dance Diploma. Her friend Agnieszka Posiednik again from Poland gained 10 GCSEs of which eight is C or above, as well as a Dance Diploma.
