Upmarket take-away on Bury Road gets the go ahead
Date published: 25 August 2009
Decking, tables and chairs will be the order of the day at an upmarket take-away on Bury Road after Rochdale Borough Council planning committee gave the go ahead to the owners of the Café at 559 Bury Road.
Mr Malik, of owners Middleton Associates, and a Bamford resident for 15 years, explained they are trying to create the same style as can be found in “Hale Barns and Didsbury”.
A high quality shop front in a contemporary design is to be complemented by a decking area with tables and chairs and a retractable awning.
Objections to the plans included those of a local business and a ward councillor.
Lisa Sharrocks a physiotherapist with premises nearby objected on the grounds that her clients often have mobility problems and the decking would be an obstacle – councillors were informed by a planning officer that the curtilage to be used is that of the shop owner and not part of the council adopted pavement. Ms Sharrocks representative also expressed concern that an alcohol licence would be applied for in future; Mr Malik gave the committee an assurance that would not be the case.
Ward councillor Jane Gartside objected to what she said would be an increase in problems with car parking that would cause a nuisance for the elderly residents of Ford Gardens and create difficulties for those walking from Pegasus Court.
However, despite Councillor Gartside urging the committee not to approve the application, they did so by a majority vote.
The takeaway will serve Asian cuisine, ice cream and coffees.
