A-levels not the only way

Pupils are being urged to weigh up their options before ripping open their GCSE results slips on Thursday.

The Learning Skills Council (LSC) is stressing that A-levels are not the only choice for teenagers who want to stay in education.

Programmes such as apprenticeships and Entry to Employment (e2e) can be the first step towards a career.

And an Education Maintenance Allowance of up to £30-per-week could be available to students who choose A-levels or vocational courses.

John Rawsthorne, LSC director for Greater Manchester North, said: “Although you can’t make a firm decision on your future choices until you find out your results, now is the time to investigate all of the routes available. Even if you have decided that continuing in full-time education is for you, moving on to sixth form or college to take A-levels isn’t the only option. You should consider the whole range of courses available at colleges and training providers across the area.

“There really is something for everyone.”
