Crime reduction roadshows come to Rochdale

Date published: 04 June 2007

Residents across Rochdale are being encouraged to attend two crime reduction roadshows.

The first event takes place on Wednesday 13 June at Rochdale Town Hall from 7pm to 9pm, and the second takes place on Thursday 21 June at Littleborough Coach House from 7pm to 9pm.

The roadshows form part of the new ‘Get It Right’ campaign, which has been showing a variety of filmed crime-scenarios at venues around Rochdale over the past three weeks.

The scenarios, which illustrate how to avoid becoming a victim of crime, involve police community support officers (PCSOs), and address issues such as burglary, robbery and vehicle crime. Each  one  is  divided  into two parts – the first part shows the PCSOs not securing their homes and vehicles properly, or not being safety conscious, and the second part shows them ‘getting it right’ when it comes to crime prevention.

Community Safety Officers and PCSOs will be on hand to explain the scenarios, and officers from Rochdale’s victim support unit will be handing out advice leaflets.

Crime Reduction Adviser for Rochdale Police, Brian Farr, said: “Through this roadshow we aim to develop people’s sense of security and personal safety. We have displayed posters advertising the event, and I hope as many people as possible will come along, because advice they pick up could help prevent them from becoming a victim of crime.”

Lee Durrant, Community Safety Operations Manager, added: “We are hoping this new face-to-face approach will get the message across about how to stay safe in your home and on the streets. The roadshow will provide a real opportunity for us to speak to our communities, and work together to reduce crime as well as the fear of crime.”
