Do you know someone whose voluntary work makes a real difference to your community? Why not show them you appreciate their hard work and achievements by nominating them for a new award from Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH), the company who manages the borough’s council stock?
This week is the national Volunteers' Week and to mark the celebration, RBH are launching Community Volunteer of the Year awards to recognize those who spend their own time, for no financial reward, doing something to benefit their local community.
One adult and one young person under 18 years old in each of the following areas will receive an award of £50: Rochdale North, Rochdale South, Middleton, Heywood and Pennines. Everyone nominated will receive a certificate.
The awards, which are supported by Rochdale Council for Voluntary Services, are part of RBH’s Communities First programme. The overall programme aims to recognize and promote positive behaviour on the borough’s council estates and takes its roots from the Government’s Respect agenda.
Sue Kershaw, Communities First Co-ordinator says, “By nominating someone for an award you can help us to highlight and celebrate the amazing work carried out by volunteers who give up their own time to benefit their communities. Anyone can be nominated - maybe you know someone who plays an active role in a Tenants and Residents Association, organizes activities for children or provides support to help others."
“The only requirement we have is that the volunteer must live on a local Council estate and currently be doing unpaid work that shows their commitment to the community. The closing date for nominations is 14 September and the winners will be invited to accept their awards at our annual Tenants’ Conference on 13 October 2007”.
