RoFTRA/RBH - no investigation and review not started

Date published: 12 August 2009

Two months Rochdale Boroughwide Housing announced that it was to commission an independent study on how best to develop "broad-based and inclusive collective tenant involvement" following controversy over the running of Rochdale Tenants and Residents Association (RoFTRA). Frustrated tenants, who have been asking when the review will be completed, have been shocked to find out that the review has not yet been started. Moreover, the investigation into RoFTRA they have been demanding looks unlikely to be forthcoming.

RBH has revealed that the consultants tasked with the review will begin to consult as many tenants as possible this month (August).

It now looks unlikely that despite a vociferous campaign by tenatts and tenants groups calling for an independent investigation into the allegations surrounding the past running of RoFTRA, that there will be any in depth investigation into RoFTRA affairs. RBH says: "There is a very strong feeling from both RBH and the Council that we should all be focusing our time and energy on thinking about the future rather than raking over the past."

RBH suspended its recognition of RoFTRA in April following a number of concerns which raised serious questions marks over how the organisation was conducting its affairs.
