Concerns over Huddersfield Road resurfacing

Date published: 07 August 2009

Local residents have voiced their concerns over the quality resurfacing work on Huddersfield Road, which was completed last night.

Rochdale Council's Highway Maintenance team have been working on a stretch of the Road between Shaw Road and Peppermint Bridge but residents have noticed that the new surface is already breaking up in parts and photographs show incomplete joins with neighbouring roads.

The Council said it would monitor the road to ensure that the work has been carried out to a high standard.

Terry Leedham, Highway Maintenance Manager, said: “The process of putting a new surface dressing on a road involves initially carrying out preparatory work including filling depressions and then completing the dressing. It would appear that some of these photographs have been taken before the process has actually been finished as the road gully needs to be adjusted to the level of the road surface.

"Once completed, the road surface can look coarse but this improves over a period of 2-4 weeks when vehicles use the road, and during this time the road is swept to remove any loose materials."
