Date published: 22 February 2008
Coronation Street star Antony Cotton
Coronation Street favourite Antony Cotton is the latest star name on the line up for LiveLife 2008, the big exhibition being staged at the Odeon Cinema at Sandbrook Park in Rochdale on Wednesday 5 March. Cotton, who plays barman and factory worker Sean Tully in the top ITV soap will be popping in to meet visitors during the event, aimed at helping you to lead a healthier lifestyle and have fun while you're at it!
Rochdale Council have teamed up with Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Primary Care Trust for the event, aimed at showing how the two organisations are working to improve health in the borough with a huge range of interactive demonstrations, exciting activities, giveaways and presentations.
Soap fans will be familiar with Cotton, the Weatherfield regular, who has spent the last few years livening up Coronation Street. His flamboyant performance won him the best newcomer trophy at the 2005 National Television Awards, followed up by the Inside Soap Award for Funniest Performance in 2006. Last year he collected the Best Actor Award at the British Soap Awards, starred in his own teatime chat show and won the ITV singing competition - Soapstar Superstar!
The afternoon kicks off with a live performance from comedian and television Doctor Phil Hammond. The comic will take to the stage at 1.00 pm for his talk entitled 'Laughter is the best medicine.' Hammond, a registered GP currently practicing in Bristol, has completed a sell out nationwide tour including a four week run at the Edinburgh Festival.
A wide range of free demonstrations will be on show, covering all aspects of healthy living, including physical activity, diabetes, sexual health, healthy eating and oral health. The Oldham Theatre workshop will be performing their new play 'Kiss My Butt', highlighting the dangers and anti social side of smoking.
Workshops will cover a range of topics, including weight management, nutrition and diet, providing valuable tips on leading a healthier life. So whether you're looking for some imaginative ideas on physical activity, advice on diabetes, stress management, dental advice or work-life balance, LifeLife 2008 will have the answers said Rachel Snow-Miller from the Primary Care Trust: "This is a fantastic fun opportunity for everyone across the borough to get involved and learn how to live a healthier lifestyle, we're looking forward to it. Visitors are in for a real treat!"
Earlier in the day, leaders of the PCT and Council will sign a 'Statement of Strategic Intent,' committing their organisations to work together to improve the health and wellbeing of people across the borough.
Admission to LiveLife 2008 is free and complimentary refreshments will be served all day. Doors open to the public at 1.00 pm, closing at 7.00 pm, with Antony Cotton popping in for a chat between 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm.
