Police appeal to find stolen copper wiring

Date published: 07 June 2007

Detectives have released pictures of some copper wiring worth nearly £20,000, similar to that which was stolen from a company in Rochdale.

Officers would like to appeal to anybody who may have seen or been sold wiring like this since it was stolen to contact police.

Sometime during the course of Sunday 15 April 2007 offenders broke into Beldon CDT, a storage warehouse on Stockton Street in Littleborough.

Having forced open the gates they twice drove an unidentified vehicle into the compound, loaded the heavy reels of wire into it, and drove away.

The copper wire is used in the aerospace industry and is coated with nickel and silver, which is why it is worth so much. The trade price for the wire is £19,811. It is thought its scrap value is between £6,000-£8,000.

Anyone with any information about this robbery, or who may recognise these reels, is asked to contact Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4622 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
