Rochdale housing projects shortlisted for ‘Kickstart’ funding

Date published: 31 July 2009

The Homes and Communities Agency has shortlisted six Rochdale projects for its ‘Kickstart’ programme, which could see over 400 new homes built in the borough.

Funding of up to £19 million could potentially be made available to six developers with the aim of stimulating house building and providing new homes for local residents.

The areas with in Rochdale that are being considered include: Unity Mill and Victory works in Heywood, with Countryside Properties bidding to both sites. Lovell Partnerships are interested in Windermere Park, Middleton.

Birch Hill, Dale Mill and Well’ith Lane, all Rochdale, have received interest from Persimmon Homes, Artisan, and Tower Gate Developments and have bid for kickstart funding.

Final decisions on the developers’ applications will be made in autumn following a detailed assessment process to ensure that the schemes are deliverable, represent good value for money and provide good quality homes.

Councillor Doreen Brophy-Lee, Porfolio Holder for Housing at Rochdale Borough Council said: “I welcome the news that these housing projects across the borough have been shortlisted under the Government’s new Kickstart initiative. I recognise that this is just the first stage and the Homes and Communities Agency will want to examine the proposals in much more detail. We will be looking to work with the bidders and the Homes and Communities Agency over the next few weeks.”
