Heywood folk Change4Life
Date published: 27 July 2009
A team from Manchester radio Key 103 set up at Morrisons last Thursday to encourage Heywood folk to take part in the national healthy lifestyle campaign, Change4Life.
Key 103 is helping to promote Change4Life across Greater Manchester by holding a competition called ‘Down Your Street’ where the public can request for a band to perform live on their street.
Launched in January this year, Change4Life is a Government campaign that encourages families to make healthy changes to their diet and take part in more exercise.
Here in the Rochdale Borough, around 11.1 per cent of reception children are obese, as well as 26.1 per cent of adults.
Dr Sheila Will, director of public health at NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale, said: “There are two key things we can do to be healthier; eat healthier food and be more active. Healthy living should not be underestimated and it’s never too late.
Obesity is a medical problem that can be reversed quickly and there are a number of services available locally that can help.”
