Green Meadow Children's Group Fun Day
Date published: 25 July 2009
Green Meadow Children's Group fun day was a hive of activity as local residents enjoyed their first 'organised' fun day for many years.
The bouncy castle proved popular with children, as did the face painting and the football tournament. There were a variety of stalls and hot food and organisations supporting the event with their presence included community police, drugs outreach, health professionals and the fire brigade.
Organiser Brenda Cox explained that it was the first time for a number of years such an event taken place, she said: "People round here don’t have much and I thought this would be a good thing all the community could join in and enjoy." She thanked Fiona, Linda, Lisa and Kay McLean for their help in organising the day.
Speaking on behalf of Birch View Tenants & Residents Association, Keith Barker added: "The Residents Association is trying to do more for the community; it has been a bit dormant."
Chris Fellows, a resident of the estate, and supervisor of the football commented: “I wanted to help with something for the kids.”
A total of £228 was raised.
