A group of sixth form students from St Cuthberts are accompanying the Salford Diocese Annual Pilgrimage to Lourdes in France.

12 students from St Cuthberts are going as Hospital Volunteers to work with the sick and the elderly enabling them to take a full part in the pilgrimage.

Students have spent the last few months fundraising to help with the costs; they have sold football cards, washed cars, run sponsored events and given a talk in Holy Family parish.

The cost to each volunteer is £613; in recognition of the valuable work the Catenian Association has donated £60 to each student towards the trip.

Mr John Welsh, President of the Rochdale Catenians, along with Dave Parkinson a Catenian and Governor at St Cuthbert's made the presentation of the cheques to the students.

Mrs Beisty, head of Religious Education at St Cuthberts said "I would like to thank the Rochdale Catenians for their generous contribution to fundraising and their appreciation of the work the students do”.

The Catenian Association have also presented 34 cheques to for £60 from the Catenian Bursary Fund to help the young people of St Joseph's Parish, Heywood, who will also be going with the Salford Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes as helpers for the sick.
