Town Centre redevelopment plans 'progressing well'

Town Centre redevelopment plans are “progressing well” according to the Council cabinet member for regeneration, Councillor Mohamed Shariff.
Tenders have been invited via advertisements with a closing date of 31 July and a shortlist of developers will be produced by the end of October with a final decision on the chosen developer being made by summer 2010.
Work is scheduled to commence in 2012.
The council had previously chosen Wilson Bowden to carry out the regeneration of the Town Centre but was forced to re-run the developer selection for the £250 million redevelopment due to a European procurement decision concerning a Greek Council’s development project.
Although the re-run has delayed the retail element of the development, work on the new interchange and river-side civic centre projects are going ahead as planned and will begin soon and be completed until 2011.
