There is no excuse to torment parents, guardians and children with summer boredom; if you are tired of hearing the continuous ‘I’m bored’ and ‘there’s nothing to do’, its time to explore the variety of activities that Rochdale has to offer.

Sure Start Children’s Centres will be hosting a range of children’s events to keep children from the ‘I’m bored’ summer blues.

This Saturday (25 July), there will be a Beach Party at the Centre on Derby Street in Heywood with lots of fun sea side themed activities. Wannabe holiday makers should join the party between 10.15am and 12.15pm.

Rochdale Council and the Pennines Township, have organised events on 25 July at Hare Hill Park off Hare Hill Road, Littleborough and at the Memorial Park, Milnrow on the 8 August.

The two days of fun will showcase children’s activities and the facilities that are available in the area. There will be lots of exciting activities taking place including play rangers, skateboard demos and a climbing wall. Lots of local organisations will be on hand to provide taster sessions, including Scouts, Duke of Edinburgh and Community Sports activities. For younger children there will be fairground rides, face painting and lots of other entertainment.

Councillor Keith Swift, Mayor of Rochdale said there will be something for all the family: “We are giving young people the opportunity to be introduced to many stimulating activities and work together with the organisers to build an active play environment. Both events are set to be packed will lots of fun, games and entertainment for all ages.”

Both events start at 11am and finish at 3pm.

For fresh air and exercise for teenagers, why not try Cricket School 2009? The summer school is at Bamford Fieldhouse Cricket Club on Hollin Lane from 3 August until 7 August. Boys and girls from age 6-16 are welcome with the coaching being provided by England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) qualified coaches.

With Paws in the Park for dog owners on the 23 August 10.00am- 4.00pm at Falinge Park to Broadfield Park Pandemonium Drumming Circle on 29 August, as well as the usual fun days and play schemes, there is something for everyone.

There are many more exciting events throughout the Rochdale area, with many of the activities free, so there is no excuse not to enjoy the summer sun whilst spending quality time with family and friends.
