Radio presenter hits out over Rochdale accent
Date published: 21 July 2009
A radio presenter from Rochdale hit out at perceptions of her accent when she hosted her breakfast show for the last time.
Liz Kershaw spent her final minutes on her BBC Coventry & Warwickshire show apparently hitting out at a local newspaper, who had recently described her 'distinctive Lancashire accent'.
The Rochdale-born 50-year old music presenter said on air: "I’m not from Coventry as you know and as the Coventry Telegraph has been so keen to point out.
“I just wonder if they would have said the same things about someone who was Asian or Afro-Caribbean. They would have been in the dock because it’s racist.”
The BBC apologised for her comments, saying that they were not the views of the BBC.
