Travellers are back - on private land
Date published: 14 July 2009
Travellers have pitched up on private land in Castleton. A small group of caravans appeared on Gypsy Lane yesterday morning (Monday 13 July).
Rochdale Borough Council say they can’t do anything about it as, this time, they have parked up on private land, therefore it is up to the landowners to move them along.
A nearby resident, who said she did not want to be named, said: “I think these travellers know the rules and they know they can’t be moved on, so they’ll stay here as long as possible, making us all feel uneasy.
“There should be better laws for things like this.”
