'Drunk' senior police officer resigns
Date published: 13 July 2009
A senior police officer has quit the force after being caught drunk behind the wheel.
Superintendent Paul Brookes was found swerving across the road by his colleagues at GMP, who gave him a roadside breath test, and found him to be three times over the legal drink driver limit in the early hours of 1 May 2009.
The officer was brought before Manchester Magistrates Court where he was fined £600 and banned from driving for 18-months.
Brookes, of Ashton Road, Failsworth, was based at Rochdale police station but was seconded out of the force.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed Supt Brookes has resigned from the force.
