And now for something a little different...

Date published: 12 July 2009

Early revellers at Mango last night were given a taste of something a little different to some of the Feel Good Festival's more mainstream sounds.

From a cello to a classical guitar, this was classical music with a twist, courtesy of one of London's bravest night's out 'Nonclassical'.

Interspersed with Gabriel Prokofiev's DJ set of baroque music with a techno mix, came powerful chello pieces, with electronic additions, and it was clear from an early stage that a small but captivated audience were in for some music that they were by no means used to.

And that was before the outlandish, unorthodox warblings of Manic Nail, who use their voices to emminate sounds that they have heard on their travels, including the groans of a ferry, the australian desert, and one or two slightly more provocative noises!

The audience were left dazed and confused by the unquestionable talent of the duo, but Rochdale is perhaps not ready for the sounds of one of London's most experimental and brave club nights.

However, that did not prevent the curiosity of the audience, who spoke to the artists after they had finished their sets and plied them with questions about their work.

The Nonclassical set brought to a close the Rochdale Feel Good Festival in a refreshingly unconventional manner, but anyone with aspirations to see the night again will have to travel a little further afield.
