A Back Door exit for the Feel Good Festival

Date published: 12 July 2009

The Feel Good Festival spirit was alive into the early hours at the Back Door Music Project.

Hundreds of revellers made their way up to the Broadwater Centre, Water Street, for the climax of an epic music day, where a selection of popular local bands finished off the event with a bang.

A slow start, with a late opening from a band who name themselves “Tim and Sam’s Tim and Sam Band with Tim and Sam’, which unfortunately wasn’t up to the superb standard of other festival performances, but did prove an ideal first slot. Being left without a drummer, and there being no vocals, it was a tough gig.

Local lads, The Hidden Revolution, were also on stage, and they blasted out some awesome rocky sounds, reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age and not to dissimilar to Muse.

A competent and tight performance of a borderline Indie/hard rock sound, which injected energy into the crowd and got their feet moving.

Magic Arm brought something a little more unconventional along, with their techno-folk sounds, and contrasting acoustics, making for an all-round refreshing show.

However, without doubt, the night belonged to Manchester band the Spokes, a lively bunch of young musicians – violin, guitars, bass and drums, all vigorously thrown together to produce a bouncy, rockier version of Vanessa Mae.

Spokes are regulars to the Back Door Music Project and they brought with them an impressive following – a definite must see for those interested in the more experimental rock music.
